Asean 50th anniversary do to be held at KLCC
KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry will organise a public showcase celebrating the 50th anniversary of Asean at the Suria KLCC shopping complex on Aug 14.
The ‘Asean Day: 50th Anniversary Celebration’ aims to promote better awareness on Asean in the eyes of the Malaysian public, as well as enhance public understanding about the organisation and instill a deeper sense of belonging among Malaysians.
Various activities have been planned to cater to a different group of public with fun and educational activities. Among them are panel discussion, talk on tips travelling abroad, and consular booth.
Apart from that, there will be interactive sessions and quizzes for children and cultural performances from the National Department for Culture and Arts.
Asean embassies in Kuala Lumpur are also expected to participate in this celebration event, according to a statement yesterday.
Other ministries and offices participating in the celebration are the tourism and culture ministry, international trade and industry ministry, Pos Malaysia and Suria KLCC.
Asean ( The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) was formed on Aug 8, 1967 and now has 10 member countries namely, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, The Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. — Bernama
