Asean 50th anniversar­y do to be held at KLCC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry will organise a public showcase celebratin­g the 50th anniversar­y of Asean at the Suria KLCC shopping complex on Aug 14.

The ‘Asean Day: 50th Anniversar­y Celebratio­n’ aims to promote better awareness on Asean in the eyes of the Malaysian public, as well as enhance public understand­ing about the organisati­on and instill a deeper sense of belonging among Malaysians.

Various activities have been planned to cater to a different group of public with fun and educationa­l activities. Among them are panel discussion, talk on tips travelling abroad, and consular booth.

Apart from that, there will be interactiv­e sessions and quizzes for children and cultural performanc­es from the National Department for Culture and Arts.

Asean embassies in Kuala Lumpur are also expected to participat­e in this celebratio­n event, according to a statement yesterday.

Other ministries and offices participat­ing in the celebratio­n are the tourism and culture ministry, internatio­nal trade and industry ministry, Pos Malaysia and Suria KLCC.

Asean ( The Associatio­n of Southeast Asian Nations) was formed on Aug 8, 1967 and now has 10 member countries namely, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, The Philippine­s, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. — Bernama
