Chinese team top KGM inter-community tourney

MIRI: The Chinese team under its captain Michael Tang emerged as overall champions at the Miri Golf Club (KGM) Inter-community Challenge on Saturday.

Finishing second and third were the Iban/ Bidayuh team and the Kelabit Highlander­s respective­ly. Other teams participat­ing in the one- day event were Malay, Melanau/ Kedayan, Unite KGM and Orang Ulu teams.

The inaugural tournament, which attracted 105 golfers, was divided into the team event, men’s individual gross and nett as well as VIP categories.

In the individual gross event, Shanmugam Nadarajah was champion with 75 (OCB) followed by Ling Yii Chem and Timothy Tang with 75 and 79 (OCB).

The individual nett title went to Dato Hussin Mohamed who posted a 68 with Tomas Gipang and Willie Rabong finishing second and third, both with a 69 (OCB).

Ling Kie Ing with a 74 ( OCB), Captain Ivan Pui with 74 and Dato Alexander Maiyor with 79 were the top three in the VIP category.

“T hi s tou r nament is a good platform to foster closer relat ionships amongst the various ethnic communitie­s in Sarawak who share a passion for golf,” said KGM captain Ivan Pui when met during the prize presentati­on ceremony at KGM’s Golf Terrace.

Pui also announced that the upcoming 29th KGM Amateur Golf Open from Sept 22- 24 will attract golfers nationwide and from Brunei and Singapore .

Miri mayor Adam Yii was also present at the event.
