PDRM lift Kuching Fest Mayor’s Cup

KUCHING: PDRM were crowned men’s open champions after they beat Katahil Remaja 2- 0 in the final of the Kuching Festival MBKS Mayor Cup football tournament at Jubilee Ground yesterday.

Mohammad Syazwan Piuri netted a double for the Police in the 7th and 9th min.

The 20-minute final saw Katahil Remaja launching numerous attacks on the PDRM goal in the second half but was let down by poor finishing.

Rhino FC and Kaslap were joint third in the competitio­n which was also participat­ed by LHDN, Pendidikan, MPP, Brooke Dockyard and MBKS.

Apart from col lecting the champions’ trophy, PDRM also received RM2,000 while Katahil Remaja received RM1,000.

Rhino FC and Kaslap each pocketed RM300.

Hilmi Solhi of Katahil Remaja was the tournament’s top scorer with three goals while Shairol Aswad Azmi from PDRM was the Best Player of the final match.

In the Youth final, SJN Junior edged Marr SC 2-1 while in joint third were Seri Setia and First Touch. The top three teams received RM1,000, RM500 and RM150.

The champions also picked up the tournament’s top scorer award through Mohammad Dzulhilmie Mohd Rafaieh who found the net six times.

Other teams in this category were Janett FC, Basic Soccer, Go Jek FC and CHMS No.3.

Meanwhile, in the Veteran final between PDRM and DBKU, Mohd Marzuki Razali scored the solitary goal in the 30th min. to hand DBKU the title and RM2,000.

Teammate Mat Nor Abu Bakar was also adjudged best player of the final while Sri Muara’s Dabib Muhammad Pani was tournament top scorer with four goals.

Joint third placings Sri Muara and SJN FC each received RM300.

Other teams in this category were Padungan United, MBKS, Serapi FC (Jelas), HDC, Pendidikan, Double AF C, PDRM and Stampin Hippo FC. MBKS deputy mayor Hilmy Othman closed the event and gave away the prizes.

Also present was organising chairman councillor Iskandar Sharkawi.

Thirty-two teams took part in the competitio­n organised by MBKS in conjunctio­n with Kuching Festival.
