Monitor RTP projects in your areas, community leaders urged
SRI AMAN: Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang wants community leaders to monitor progress of works or projects under the Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) in their areas.
As the eyes and ears of the government, community leaders must be responsible in reporting matters at their respective backyards.
Mong said they must also supervise works of the contractors to ensure that projects were implemented according to schedule and within the time frame promised because in the end it is for the benefit of their charges including longhouse and rural folks.
He made the remarks when officiating at the closing ceremony of a briefing for community leaders in Bukit Begunan here on Saturday.
Mong hoped the process of appointing or reappointing community leaders to be expedited because delays could hamper development in areas where their services are needed.
He said he has no qualms in supporting longhouse chieftains or village headmen whom his charges had legally elected.
He pointed out that he has no authority or power to reject the appointment of legally elected chiefs.
He also urged members of village security and development committees of every village and longhouse to encourage parents to send their children to school and provide education incentives to excellent students.
On another issue, Mong urged associations to be proactive and resourceful in meeting the cost of their annual activities.
If need be, they should organise activities which can generate income for their associations so that they would not be overly dependent on government grants, he stressed.
Among those present at the function were Penghulu Belie Blasan, Tuai Rumah Slimen Kring, Tuai Rumah Iban and Tuai Rumah Siti Amit and several local councillors.
