KUCHING: Thirty- five village chiefs and community leaders from Pantai Damai constituency learned more about the operations of a power plant during a visit to Sejingkat Power Corporation ( SPC) Sdn Bhd – a subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Bhd ( SEB) – yesterday.

The group was led by Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman.

“The technical briefing given during the visit is vital in ensuring that the community leaders, as representatives of the people, understand the day-today operations in this plant. At the same time, the people need to know what is going on at this plant as they pass it every day.

“At the same time, we are proud of the capabilities of SEB as it moves towards becoming a major powerhouse in the energy industry within the region,” said Dr Abdul Rahman.

He later on expressed his satisfaction at seeing the progress achieved by SEB, particularly in transmitting power to Kalimantan since last year, as well as at the interconnection to Brunei in 2019 and to Sabah, in 2020.

Incorporated in September 1993, SPC was granted an electricity generation licence for a period of 25 years commencing April 1997, while SPC2 was given the same licence for a period of 25 years commencing November 2003.
