KUALA LUMPUR: The public and private sectors are urged to collaborate to increase the awareness on the importance of cybersecurity in the country, said CyberSecurity Malaysia Chairman, Gen (R) Tan Sri Mohd Azumi Mohamed.

He said even though the awareness among Malaysians was improving year by year, it was still at a very low level.

“A high level of operational excellence and preparedness is crucial to continue to keep Malaysia safe and secure.

“Cybersecurity is not just a concern of the government, it should be the concern of all the people who use the Internet, especially the business community,” he told a press conference on the Security, Fire and Safety Exhibition and Conference Southeast Asia 2017 (IFSEC SEA) here, yesterday.

Organised by UBM Asia, the fifth edition of IFSEC SEA, which will kicked off on Sept 6- 8, 2017 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, is expected to attract 10,000 visitors from local and overseas.

UBM Asia Business Development director, Eliane Van Doorn, said the three- day event will feature more than 350 companies and brands from 42 countries including the United Kingdom, Singapore, China, Indonesia and Taiwan.

“Besides the exhibition, there are seminars and conferences to be held throughout the event and these programmes are the platform for business opportunities and insight- sharing among industry players to keep them up-to- date with the latest technologies.

“It is not only about the commercial aspect, but above all, providing global innovations and expertise to the security, fire and safety markets in the region,” she added.

IFSEC SEA 2017 is also supported by government agencies and associations such as Home Affairs Ministry, the Royal Malaysian Police, British Security Industry Association, Asian Professional Security Association Malaysia Chapter, CyberSecurity Malaysia and ASIS International Malaysia Chapter.
