Othman spoils party of top duo

KUCHING: Othman Putit spoiled the party of leading jockeys Roslan Bujang and Jasmi Kamar when he beat them to the cherry on the cake in Race Five (Class One – 1000M) on Sunday.

The veteran rider ruined what should have been a blast for the top two hoops by booting home Empila Boy who did not even figure in the betting but somehow found the right form to give tipsters the blush.

The five-year- old was a horse of a different colour, defying the odds to steal the show from two strongly fancied stablemates – Bukan Lawan Nya, and Gadis Keningau – and oblige with a good payout of RM57.

Storm Raider ( Kamar Yaman) finished second, five lengths adrift, while hot favourite Bukan Lawan Nya, mount of Roslan Bujang, could manage only third place, nine lengths further back.

The other strong fancy Gadis Keningau, with Jasmi Kamar in the saddle, failed to fire, travelling way off the pace all through to finish a distant last. Baff led pundits had to scratch their heads no end, trying figure out what went wrong.

Empila Boy is owned by Beraya Stable and trained by Tamizi Putit.

Newcomer Rain Maker stood head and shoulders above the rest in Race 3 (Class Three – 1000M).

The five-year- old was off on a Bill Daly from the get-go, making every post a winning one to stamp his class by a distance in a time of 1: 30.5 seconds, beating the Class One winning time of 1.31.1 seconds.

Wind Chaser ( Othman Putit) finished a distant second to make it a 1-2 finish for W Stable while Datang Lagi ( Maruf Wahab) dropped in for third place, a street further back.

Rain Maker, trained by Tamizi Putit, paid RM7.

Dragon Fly ( Roslan Bujang) scored a long overdue win in Race One (Class Five – 1000M).

The eight-year- old finally came into his own to snap a lengthy losing streak by five lengths from stablemate Elturius (Jasmi Kamar) with Master Wishes ( Mazlan Bujang) a long third, a distance away.

Dragon Fly, owned by Leong Stable and trained by Edmund Sim, paid RM14.

Zorro ( Maruf Wahab) made a return to the winner’s circle with a lion-hearted showing in Race Four (Class Two – 1000M).

The nine-year- old came with a typical burst in the final 200M to take out front-running Kimanis ( Jasmi Kamar) by a thrilling three-quarter length in 1: 30.5 sec -also faster the Class One winning time.

Kimanis tried to make the running all the way but did not count in the odds of the winner’s flyingfinishandhadtobecontended with playing bridesmaid.

Super Lady (Roslan Bujang) was third, a distance further back.

Dream Catcher II (Amin Abang), who was going well with the pace, blew his chance by taking run wide out coming into the home straight and had to settle for fourth place.

Zorro, owned by Sara Stable and trained by Lee Moi Fong, paid RM14.

The going was yielding.
