M’sia fest in Singapore attracts over 100,000 visitors

SINGAPORE: The recently concluded Malaysia Fest 2017, which featured the very best of Malaysia in terms of food, fashion, beauty, travel and culture from more states than before, was a roaring success as it attracted a larger number of visitors, drawing more than 100,000 people.

The four- day event held at the Singapore Expo, Changi from Aug 10, witnessed the participation of Sabah, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and Melaka.

“Dasyat! (amazing),” quipped MegaXpress International Pte Ltd Managing Director Hamzah Abdullah when asked by Bernama on the number visitors who thronged the fest.

MegaXpress hosted the Malaysia Fest for the second time with the support of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority ( FAMA) and Agrobazaar Malaysia as partners.

“The response was beyond our expectations. This maybe due to the increase in the number of states taking part this time around.

“We brought uniqueness like food from every nook and corner of Malaysia. Singaporeans looked forward to the Malaysia Fest as we assembled nearly all states under one roof. So, they did not have to travel to Malaysia to sample the dishes,” he said.

MegaXpress also introduced regional segmentation, with the northern region ful ly represented by Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak, he said, adding that nevertheless, Terengganu still dominated the event, having taken 80 of the total 240 booths.

Ironica l ly, MegaXpress could not accommodate one state which made a last-minute conf irmation this year, he added.

In retrospect, Hamzah said the inaugural Malaysia Fest last year was an outstanding success as well as it attracted 82,445 visitors.

About 200 booths were arrayed at the event which was also held over four days with the support of the Terengganu government and FAMA as partners, he added.

Hamzah said the Malaysia Fest has played its ultimate role as a ‘ test” platform for the Singapore market for Malaysian entrepreneurs.

Buoyed by the overwhelming response to the Malaysia Fest for two consecutive years, he said MegaXpress planned to host the third edition next year and hoped every state from Malaysia would take part and it would ensure that each one of them would be prominent ly displayed. — Bernama
