Boys’ Brigade BB Love Box targets 6,000 Christmas gifts for needy kids

-

KUCHING: The Second Kuching Company of the Boys’ Brigade hopes to distribute 6,000 Christmas gift items to the lessfortunate in and around the city this year.

Captain Sim Tze Sian said his side set up ‘BB Love Box’ – a social project in 2012, when 2,500 gift items were distributed.

“This year, we plan to distribute 6,000 gifts,” he said at Boys’ Brigade Second Kuching Company’s 50th anniversary dinner in KTS Garden here on Saturday.

Under the project, the brigade’s Second Kuching Company had distributed 18,000 gift items between 2012 and last year.

Sim said the company had incorporated many different sections, including the pre-junior, the primer and the alumni over the years.

The pre-junior and primer sections are meant for those aged between seven and 18.

The alumni section, on the other hand, allows former Boys’ Brigade members to continue taking part in activities run by the Second Kuching Company.

“Fifty years ago, this company was formed in Chin Fu Methodist Church at Jalan Pisang. In 1984, we found a new home in Trinity Methodist Church.

“We are thankful for the Trinity Methodist Church and the Local Church Executive Committee ( LCEC) who have been with us through our many years of ups and downs,” added Sim.

There were several performances being staged during the anniversary do including a combined choir singing ‘All Good Gifts’, a dance presentation ‘Who Am I’ by pre-junior members and also band performances by the junior section.

International Trade and ECommerce Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Second Finance Minister, was the guest-of-honour. Also present were Boys’ Brigade Second Kuching Company patron Stephen Lau and its captain Rev Poh Chin Sing.
