He added that the 60th Merdeka Day celebration was aimed at showing the people the importance of unity among all races.

“Our nation’s harmony must be preserved through our ability as Malaysians to work together within our capacity to achieve National Transformation 2050 ( TN50),” he said.

He pointed out several important dates to be remembered by the younger generation to embrace the true meaning of independence.

“These important dates are Aug 31, Sept 16 and most important for Sarawakians, July 22. These dates are important as reminders of our history towards becoming a sovereign nation,” he said.

Ahmad Lai pointed out that the government had provided various facilities for education, so there was no more excuse for parents not to send their children to school.

“The government has provided numerous facilities including study loans and scholarships to ensure our children get the education they deserve so they can bring positive change for our nation in the future,” he said.

About 500 participants and 30 vehicles took part in the convoy organised by the Information Department of Miri and Bintulu.
