PUTRAJAYA: Mal aysi an triathlete Irene Chong See Win clinched the bronze medal in women’s triathlon with a time of 2: 25:44s at the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games yesterday.

Irene, seen in tears as she approached the finish line, thanked her team mate Zoe Natasha Bowden for motivating her along the way.

“I wouldn’t be able to do it without her motivation along the way. We did our best with no regrets. Who won the medal was not important,” she said.

Aiming for berths in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and next year’s Asia Games, she vowed to strive better in the future.

Irene finished behind gold medallistMarionKimMangrobang who clocked 2:11:14s and silver medallist Maria Claire Adorna with 2:18: 58s. Both of them were from the Philippines.

However, luck was not on the side of Malaysian male triathlete and 2015 SEA Games silver medallist Rikigoro Shinozuka who finished sixth in the male category.

“I did my best. It was tougher than the previous SEA Games and luck was just not on my side today (yesterday),” he said.

Philippine triathlete Huelgas Nikko Bryan defended his Singapore SEA Games gold with 1: 59: 30s followed by his team mate John Chinano who clocked 2: 01:27s for the silver while the bronze went to Clement Chow Sheng Ren of Singapore with 2: 03: 24s. — Bernama
