‘ National Day Prayer Service’ to be held at CEWC this evening

KUCHING: The Associatio­n of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) will hold a ‘ National Day Prayer Service’ on Aug 24, starting 7.30pm at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre (CEWC) at Jalan Stampin here.

Members of different Christian denominati­ons are welcome to attend the service, which is expected to see about 2,000 people this year.

ACS secretary- general Ambrose Linang said the order of the service would cover different themes of scripture readings and prayer.

“Representa­tives of various churches will offer prayers for our king, our leaders and our country,” he told a press conference at CEWC yesterday.

so that they will continue to work harmonious­ly in upholding our religious freedom. The recitation of the Holy Scriptures will be in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Iban, Chinese, Kayan and Bidayuh,” he added.

The theme for this year’s service is ‘For Your Great Name’s Sake’ as inspired by Daniel 9:19.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, assisted by Minister of Education, Science and Technologi­cal Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin, will hoist the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ and the state flag before the reading of the scriptures and prayers.

Ambrose said there would also be prayers for peace of the world, unity and harmony among all races and religions, which would be shared by Pastor Denney Nebor of Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church.

“A combined choir comprising members of different churches will lead the service.

“The benedictio­n by heads of churches will be led by Rev Dr Lau Hui Ming representi­ng president of Sarawak Chinese Methodist Church, Rev Dr Ting King Tai.”

Chairman of the prayer service organising committee Pastor Jacob Tupek, its secretary Pastor Terry Valten, Pastor Brian Scott and executive secretary of SDA Mission Pastor Attie Gara were also present at the press conference.
