‘Kemas skills training courses to help raise income’

-

KAPIT: Skills training courses conducted by the Community Development Department ( Kemas) will help with income generation among the lower income group.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said Kemas programmes such as the Felt Handicraft Course are able to provide much-needed skills.

“Handicrafts are not just for home decoration but can be marketed to generate income. For example, pua kumbu can fetch a high price in the market, especially among tourists,” he said when closing the Felt Handicraft Course here recently.

He urged the participants to make full use of their skills to generate income.

A total of 20 participants from Song and Kapit were selected to participate in the three- day course.

Nanta said apart from skills training, Kemas also runs preschool classes and adult literacy classes.

He pointed out that the government also runs income generation schemes under the Ministry of Agriculture, and Welfare Department.

Among those present were Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Tapah Ata – a political secretary to the Chief Minister, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, Kemas officer Leena Tero, and Ambrose Abong Bugek – Nanta’s special affairs officer.
