KAPIT: Kelab Gagung Sibu Sarawak (KGS) and the Genturong Mas Rawing village security and development committee (JKKK) from Lubok Engkuang, Ulu Sungai Amang recently held a gotong-royong project for two former Sarawak Rangers.

Today I am happy to note that KGS is not only active in promoting the Iban traditional warrior gear – the gagung – but they are also very proactive in carrying out social service activities for the community and contributing towards the local community. The project involved cementing the driveways and car porches of retired Rangers Bilun Mandaw and Sulau Rawing.

Their houses were built next to each other under the PeopleFriendly Housing Programme by the Department of Veterans Affairs using the Jiwa Murni concept.

“Today I am happy to note that KGS is not only active in promoting the Iban traditional warrior gear – the gagung – but they are also very proactive in carrying out social service activities for the community and contributing towards the local community,” said Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, who officiated at the event.

He said the gotong-royong could also help foster closer rapport and a spirit of cooperation and unity among the community.

Jamit also announced a government grant of RM12,000 for Genturong Mas Rawing to carry out improvements in the village.
