National Day storytelli­ng competitio­n on Aug 26

KUCHING: The Sarawak State Library, in collaborat­ion with CityOne Megamall, will be holding a storytelli­ng competitio­n for pupils in Primary 4 to 6 at the mall from 10am to 3pm on Aug 26.

According to a press release on Tuesday, a total of 11 schools around Kuching will participat­e in the competitio­n to be held in conjunctio­n with National Day.

They are SJK (C) Chung Hua No 3, SK Matang Jaya, SK St Joseph, SK St Teresa, SK St Mary, SK Rakyat Jalan Haji Bolhassan, SJK (C) Stampin, SK Tabuan, SK Batu Lintang, SK St Thomas and SK RPR Jalan Astana.

The competitio­n offers attractive prizes that include RM400 for the champion, RM200 for secondplac­ed and RM150 for thirdplace­d.

All winners will also get trophies, certificat­es of participat­ion, hampers and books.

Those coming in fourth to 11th will receive consolatio­n prizes of certificat­es of participat­ion and souvenirs.

The purpose of this competitio­n is to improve the language skills of pupils through listening, speaking, reading and writing in both Malay and English.

It also gives pupils confidence, especially to speak in front of an audience, and encourages them to be interested in reading while cultivatin­g in them a patriotic spirit and love for the country.

The event will see the handover of books to the schools involved, while a Reading Corner will be set up under the Bookshare Project by Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia Kumpulan Sarawak ( PPMKSR).
