Indonesian faces three alleged rape charges, out on bail

SIBU: An Indonesian national, 29, charged with rape pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here yesterday, and was released on RM8,000-bail with one surety.

Marhaji Madjin was also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month until the disposal of case.

He is charged with rape under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code for allegedly raping a 20-year- old woman in Sibu Jaya between 11.30pm and 11.59pm on Aug 21.

The section provides for a jail term of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years and shall also be liable to whipping upon conviction.

Marhaji also faces a charge of sexual connection by object under Section 377CA of the same Code for allegedly committing the offence against the same person at the same venue between 11pm and 11.59pm on Aug 21.

The section carries a jail term of between five and 30 years and also liable to be whipped on conviction.

The court released him on RM8,000- bail with one surety, and was also required to report to the nearest police station once a month.

He is also charged with outraging of decency under Section 377D of the same code at a magistrate’s court here.

The Section provides for a jail term which may extend to two years upon conviction.

He allegedly committed the offence on the same person at the same place between 11pm and 11.30pm on Aug 21.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on RM7,000-bail with two sureties.

His passport was also impounded and he must also report himself at the nearest police station once a week.

He was ordered to appear in court again on Sept 19 for further mention for all three charges.
