Kolej Sunway Kuching Sept intake for DIA, SIBM programmes now open

-

KUCHING: Kolej Sunway Kuching will be offering a new intake for its Diploma in Accounting ( DIA) and Diploma in Business Management ( DIBM) programmes this September due to popular demand.

Its chief executive officer Joseph Lim has called on all interested students to enrol now.

“If you don’t want to miss our final intake for the year, please register with us as soon as possible. Classes will commence on Sept 25,” he said in a statement yesterday

He pointed out that both diplomas offer multiple opportunities for students upon graduation.

“As both the DIA and DIBM are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and recognised by employers throughout the country, students can utilise either qualification to secure their dream job.

“In recent months, for example, a number of our DIA graduates have been accepted into audit and accounting firms, banks and other commercial firms.

“Alternatively, both qualifications offer students a pathway to a business related degree. In the case of DIA, students will also have the opportunity to pursue the ACCA professional accounting programme.”

He revealed that the college has developed articulation pathways that allowed DIA and DIBM graduates the option to pursue Year 2 of undergraduate programmes at a number of local and overseas universities of good ranking.

Universities that accept Sunway’s DIA and DIBM graduates are Nottingham University Malaysia Campus; University of Waikato and University of Canterbury, New Zealand; Birmingham City University, UK; University of Western Australia; Curtin University in Sarawak and Australia; Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus; Victoria University, Melbourne; Australia Catholic University, Sydney; Cardiff University, Wales; James Cook University, Singapore; Kaplan Higher Education Academy, Singapore; University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS), Sibu; KDU University College; and Sunway University.

“With our articulation pathways, students can choose to study overseas in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

“Alternatively, they can also stay closer to their family and friends by choosing to study at reputable local universities like KDU, UCTS, Curtin, Swinburne or Nottingham University Malaysian Campus,” he said, adding that DIA graduates will not be restricted to pursuing accounting and finance majors if they decide to enrol at one of Kolej Sunway Kuching’s partner universities.

“Our DIA students will also have the opportunity to pursue non-accounting degree courses in areas like business management and international business.

“This is because the DIA curriculum provides a strong foundation in general aspects of business, incorporating subjects like marketing, management, economics, law, business communication and entrepreneurship.”

Launched in Sept 2013, the DIA programme consists of 30 subjects and can be completed in two-anda-half-years of full-time study.

Kolej Sunway Kuching successfully produced its first cohort of DIA graduates in December 2015.

At present, approximately 200 students are pursuing the course.

To be eligible to enrol for the DIA, students must have passed SPM/ O levels/ UEC with a minimum of three credits, including in Mathematics. They must also have passed English.

The DIBM, meanwhile, was launched in March 2016.

Like the DIA, the DIBM comprises 30 subjects and can be completed with two- and- a-halfyears of full-time study.

The DIBM offers an in- depth business education, geared to professional practice, specialist careers, self- employment and to the demands of general management.

The course is structured to allow increased choice as it progresses and provides two specialist subject routes as well as generalist route from which students may choose to meet their individual needs and career aspirations.

To be eligible to enrol for the DIBM, students must have passed SPM/O levels/ UEC with a minimum of three credits ( 3Bs in UEC).

Upon enrolment, DIA and DIBM students can apply for a National Higher Education Fund Corporation ( PTPTN) loan and for the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation scholarship.
