BP Run sees record number of runners

SIBU: Over 3,000 runners took part in the seventh BP Run yesterday which began at Sibu Town Square.

KTS Group of Companies senior manager Michael Wong described the run, believed to be one of the biggest held here, as one of the best platforms to gather and make new friends.

“I believe that most of you are joining the run not because of the attractive prize money but you are also aware of the importance of exercising apart from your carrying out your daily routine workload,” he said during the run’s launch. He pointed out the run started in 2011 with around 600 runners.

this year is no exception, with the figure surpassing the 3,000level mark,” he said.

This year also saw the Men’s and Women’s Open category lengthened to 10km from the previous 8km.

The other categories were the 5km Fun Run and the Boys’ and Girls’ Junior. The champions for the Men’s and Women’s Open each received RM500, second place – RM350, third place – RM300, fourth place – RM250, and fifth place – RM150. Consolatio­n prizes of RM50 each went to those placed sixth to 20th.

The champion for the Boys’ and Girls’ Junior each received RM350, second place – RM300, third place – RM250, fourth place – RM200 and fifth place – RM150. Consolatio­n prizes of RM30 each went to those who placed sixth to 60th.

For the Fun Run category, the prizes were first place – RM150, second place – RM120, third place – RM100, fourth place – RM80 and fifth place – RM60. Consolatio­n prizes of RM20 each went to those who placed sixth to 90th.
