Training paying dividends, says Tho

Tho fended off a strong field of marathon runners from throughout the state, and revealed that the race was tough.

“It’s not easy. There are some big names and I am fortunate to beat them,” she added.

The mother of two had been training alone regularly at Stadium Tun Zaidi and only lately, beginning to find that her efforts is paying dividends.

“Initially, I run to keep fit but slowly, I discover the thrill in long distance running and later, taking parts in tournament­s and winning medals and cash give me all the motivation to go further.”

Like Feldarus, Kho, who hailed from Miri but had since settled in Sibu, said her next big assignment is the Sibu Marathon.

As for he r chanc es , T ho preferred to keep a low profile, saying she would only be trying her best to win something for herself.

“Provided that the foreign runners are not coming, then I may be able to win something,” she added.

For the 29- year- old Unimas staff Syairazi Shamsuddin, his victory in the 5km Fun Run was not expected and admitted that it just came by chance.

Syairazi, together with his two siblings and three other friends drove here al l the way from Kuching just to take part in the Fun Run category.

“I never expect to win the title as it was my first time taking part in the event.

“Moreover, I’m also nursing the shin splints injury on my left leg and I was actually running through the pain.

“Neverthele­ss, the victory will spur me to come back for my next try.”

Syairazi came across the event from Facebook postings and said ‘why not give it a try’.

“Today, I am proud with my results,’ he said, adding that his brother Azrin finished fourth in the race.
