Feldarus wins BP Run, bags sixth title of year

I’m fully prepared for the Sibu Marathon... My ultimate aim is to get that title.

SIBU: Long distance runner Mohd Feldarus Abdul Rahman is hungry for more accolades after winning the BP Run Men’s Open 10km category yesterday, his sixth title of the year.

The 29-year- old army personnel from Miri easily won the run in 33 mins 20 secs, which was held at Sibu Town Square.

He took home RM500 cash, a medal and a certificat­e.

Feldarus also won the 21km Rotary Run, Ampang Tahun Baru Run and Cats City Marathon Run held in Kuching, Tower Run held in Sibu and Sarawak Day Run held in Miri this year.

With six titles in the bag, Feldarus is going for his seventh – the Sibu Marathon later this month.

“I’m fully prepared for the Sibu Marathon, which has attracted good runners from throughout the country. My ultimate aim is to get that title in order to boost my confidence.”

He also said it was his first time competing in BP Run and he was happy with his performanc­e.

“The run is very systematic­ally organised and the f lat terrain give the runners the feel good factors.”

Feldarus said he had long heard about the BP Run from his friends but couldn’t take part in the past editions due to work commitment and clash of dates.

“Each time when the run was held, I was either overseas or busy with my job.

“This is the first time that I am available for the run and hence, the first title for me as far as BP Run is concerned.”

continue his winning streak.

Meanwhile, Tho Siaw Khim, an account executive here, was happy to retain the Women’s Open crown which she won last year.

She clocked 39 mins 45 secs to win the 10km category and bagged RM500, a medal and a certificat­e.

‘ The distance does not actually come to 10km but in any long distance run, there are bound to be some difference­s in the distance,” she added.

SAMARAHAN: This year’s National Day will be a day to remember for Team HGA as they captured their first title in the Samarahan Country Club ( SCC) Inter-Team Match Play Championsh­ip at SCC yesterday.

HGA, who were playing their fourth final since the inter-team competitio­n started in 2013, finally laid their hands on the QC Concrete Challenge Trophy after they edged Brothers 3-2 in yesterday’s closely fought contest.

“This is a very meaningful win for us because it is our first title in five years and having played in three finals before this. We are very happy to have won the final on a National Day.

“Today’s game was very close as the winner was decided on the final hole where we only need to square the score and John Then Yu Bin and Tan Ting Huat claimed the vital point for us in the second fourball,” said HGA captain Kenny Chin Jee Poh.

HGA had won the first singles, lost the second singles in the playoff, won the first fourball but lost the third fourball.

Other team members were Abdul Aziz Sahari, Oliver Ting Ing Lieng, Michael Lee Joon Kiong, Edward Chin, Danny Wee Bee Soon, Jimmy Tan, Chin Hau Shin and Andrew Jong Shak Seng.

For the victory, HGA collected a goods voucher worth RM10,000, the challenge trophy, a trophy and medals while Brothers, captained by Then Su Yew, collected a goods voucher worth RM7,000, a trophy and medals.

Other teams who participat­ed in this championsh­ip played over the weekends were King Kaban, Mafia Hukum, Tee Off Club, Trac Wheels, TPG United, Warriors, Black Labang, GPXB, Harmoni Elite, Harmoni Orri, HKH Pink, J& J Woods and Keruk 16.

Meanwhile, Richard Sim Kay Hak carded a nett score of 61 to win the Loser’s Pool title while Lokman Mustafa finished ahead of Ahmad Khaidir Aris and Ferdinand Janting on count back after the three golfers had similar scores of 65.

The fifth to 10th placings went to Michael Sim Boo Heng, Daniel yeo Thien Chai, Liew Kai Loon, nandong Kudor, Lincoln Leong and Law Kim Yang.

Roland Ling Koh Wen won the men’s nett title in the Invited Guests category with his score of 63 while two strokes behind him was Wesley Chai and Raymong Ling Seng Kiat was third on a 67.

In fourth to 10th spots were Jacque Chian Chee Ching, Raymong Bakeri, Lai Cho Sim, Tan Jit Kee, James Chuo To Sui, John Cheu Teck Hook and Dato Kho Kak Beng.

The Ladies title was won by Pauline Gan Guet Beng who posted the day’s nett score of 66, followed by Susan Toh Siok Tin and Margaret Tan with scores of 66 and 69 respective­ly.

RM25,000 was raised by Datuk Lorna Enan Muloon and company for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society and among the events organised at the prize giving lunch were a lucky draw and a karaoke session.

Also present were SCC patron Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, SCC deputy president Simon Sinang Bada and Quality Concrete Holdings Berhad group managing director Raymond Tiang.
