Non-discriminatory Lawas MP a leader for all — Awg Tengah
LAWAS: Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Datuk Henry Sum Agong’s character in being nondiscriminatory when serving his Lawas constituency is a testament to his leadership.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this at the Aidiladha lunch at Kampung Bukit Puan, Ulu Merapok here yesterday.
“He ( Henry) is colour-blind and non- discriminatory against any race or creed, and this is what we all want as it is the recipe of us moving forward,” he said.
Awang Tengah said the people of Lawas are fortunate to have such an MP who is close to the multi-racial grassroots.
The Bukit Sari assemblyman said it was easy for him to discuss plans and issues concerning Lawas with Henry, who is always ready to serve the people.
He pointed out that the Malays, Kedayans, Tagals and Lun Bawangs in Ulu Merapok have been living peacefully and harmoniously, and urged them to continue upholding the spirit of give- and-take.
Awang Tengah added the government plans to roll- out a mini service centre and other infrastructures here as part of its rural transformation programme to raise the socio- economic standard of locals.
“The mini collection centre planned in lower Merapok prior to the recent approval of a collection centre in Lawas is aimed at providing opportunities to the locals to market their products with access to the markets.”
Meanwhile, he urged villagers in Ulu Merapok to be realistic and look at the bigger picture to avoid misunderstandings, grudges and bickering in moving forward.
Earlier, the deputy chief minister handed over meat donated by himself and Henry at the Ulu Merapok mosque after joining locals for their Friday prayers.
The meat was distributed to 172 villagers from Bukit Puan, Kampung Languban and Kampung Sasa .
Accompanying Awang Tengah were his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Lawas District Officer Hussaini Hakim, Sarawak Administrative Officer ( SAO) of Sundar Ladin Atok, Pemanca Rosli Masjid and community leaders.
