‘K1M Kpg Opar a great model for other communities’
BAU: The cooperation and solidarity between members of the 1Malaysia Community ( K1M) of Kampung Opar here are something that deserves praise and should be emulated by other villagers across this district.
Sumi Lidel, who is private secretary to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Datuk Anthony Nogeh Gumbek, was proud to see such spirit of togetherness being demonstrated during a K1M programme conducted by Bau District Information Department at the village yesterday – one that he deemed as a ‘great success’.
Sumi commended said the people of Kampung Opar for coming together to host the event in the spirit of ‘gotong royong’ (work party).
“The cooperation shown by all of you (villagers) during this event is very much lauded, as it helps to foster closer rapport between you and at the same time, it upholds the spirit of ‘gotong royong’.
“I would also like to thank the Information Department for organising the programme, which he said complemented those lined up by ministry.
On another subject, Sumi encouraged more youths to take part in a seminar on ‘ Youth Agropreneur’ to be run by the ministry sometime this month.
He also called for more youths from the Mas Gading parliamentary constituency – of which Nogeh is the MP – who are interested in agriculture to attend courses available at the National Agriculture Training Council ( NATC), operated under Nogeh’s ministry.
According to him, NATC runs certificate and diploma-level courses in planting, animal rearing, food processing, marketing and fisheries – all fully sponsored by the government.
Meanwhile, state Information Department deputy director Ali Suhaili said K1Ms should play the role of ‘community reporters’ in terms of promoting local products, culture and tradition of the communities that they represent.
On the National Day celebration, Ali said he was proud to see the Jalur Gemilang being flown around Kampung Opar, including those attached on flagpoles that line the stretch all the way to the village.
This, he noted, indicated a strong sense of patriotism, which should be instilled in the younger generation.
Later at the function, there was a presentation of education incentives to the children of K1M members who excelled in their Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah ( UPSR), Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 ( PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM) examinations last year.
A donation was also handed over to Sinonis Daim, whose house was destroyed by fire on Aug 4 this year.
