‘K1M vital in disseminating govt information’
KAPIT: The 1Malaysia Community ( K1M) plays a very significant role when it comes to the running of activities slated for disseminating information from the government to the grassroots.
According to Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, ideally the organisation should comprise members of various communities like the Malays, Dayaks and Chinese, with monitoring from their respective district-level Information Department.
“The K1M complements government’s effort in inculcating the spirit of national integration in Malaysians.
“We must be alert when seeing and receiving news from social media and to not blindly accept everything – it is important for us to verify such information before sharing or spreading it. Be aware that there are certain irresponsible quarters that want to discredit the government by spreading fabricated news or information.
“In this regard, the K1M plays a vital role,” he said at a K1M programme held on the town square here recently.
The event was a part of activities being run throughout the district-level National Month campaign.
Ugak also said K1M serves as the ‘bridge’ between the community – especially rural folks, elected representatives and heads of government departments and agencies.
“Another key role (of K1M) is to realise the e- community by setting up K1M Internet centres, which could help the people apply for jobs, find out more information about education as well seek prospects in e- commerce.
“Thus, it is my hope that all K1Ms in Sarawak, particularly those in my constituency, be more pro-active in holding more activities for their communities and disseminate government policies and development plans to the people,” he said.
It is learnt that there are 10 K1Ms in Hulu Rajang – K1M Taman Indah, K1M Rumah Manok Mancha in Sungai Yong, K1M Rumah Emak in Nanga Antaroh, K1M Kampung Melayu, K1M Bletih, K1M Pekan Kapit, K1M Genturong Sekaban, K1M Kampung Sawang at Jalan Melekun, K1M Sungai Bena and K1M Bukit Goram.
