MARUDI: Saberkas is a unique youth organisation as its members come from diverse backgrounds, religions, races and ethnicity.

It provides a great platform for youth to learn social cohesiveness, and most importantly a great opportunity to learn about leadership.

For the record, Saberkas has produced state leaders. Even the president all this while has been our chief minister. Now it is helmed by Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said this when he received about 30 applications to join Saberkas from the chairman of Saberkas Unit of Long Selatong in Upper Baram, Petrus Enggan, at Long Selatong recently.

Dennis further said Abang Johari has been putting emphasis on Saberkas as part of the state’ prime mover into digital economy.

And Saberkas being the largest youth organisation in the state, he said the chief minister wanted it to lead in getting youth to take advantage of the new economy era which is driven by internet facilities in doing modern business including farming.

Dennis also revealed that Saberkas Telang Usan branch now has 5 units and 798 members.

“We will continue to recruit more youth to become members of Saberkas Telang Usan,” he said.

He further said that the focus of Saberkas today under the leadership of Abang Johari has moved from traditional activities such as traditional farming to innovation and modern farming.

“With the setting up of Highland Development Agency ( HDA), a brainchild of our chief minister focusing on rural economy and infrastructures we are expecting new opportunity to develop within Ulu Baram.

“So youth of today must keep their eyes open and monitor the state government initiatives and long term planning,” he added.
