UCTS sends students, lecturers for study tour

The purpose is to provide a unique learning opportunit­y to the students where they get to witness various food processing technologi­es first hand, instead of only learning from textbooks.

SIBU: The University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) will be sending eight undergradu­ate students and two lecturers to Guangzhou, China for a study tour, Sept 12-21.

The two lecturers are Hwong Chia Shing and Koh Chen Chung while the eight students are Sebastian Chua Phin Lun, Esther Ling Qiu Yi, Annie Ling Hui Ping, Joey Lau Siao Jin, Jessie Wong Ye Ming, Chieng Hui Jun, Ting Ding Chai and Harry Ejay Atit.

They are from the Bachelor of Food Technology ( BFT) stream of UCTS.

UCTS vice chancellor Prof Dato Dr Abdul Hakim Juri said the tour is jointly rolled out by UCTS, Guangdong AIB Polytechni­que and Sarawak China Graduates Alumni Associatio­n.

technologi­es fi rst hand, instead of only learning from textbooks.

“It is also hoped that the trip would make potential students become very aware of the presence of Food Technology Programme in UCTS,” he told reporters at a press conference yesterday.

Sarawak China Graduates Alumni Associatio­n vice chairman Nick Ting Sing was also present.

Hakim said the students and lecturers will be visiting various food manufactur­ing facilities in Guangzhou such as Guangzhou Yakult Co Ltd, Yi Hai Kerry Food Marketing Co Ltd, Guangzhou Baosang Health Food Co Ltd, Zhaoqing Yurun Food Co Ltd, Guangdong Meiweixian Seasoning Food Co Ltd, Guangzhou Fragrance Agricultur­al Co Ltd, Yingde Shang Mingxuan Tea Co Ltd and the Guangdong AIB Polytechni­c.

“The trip would serve as a lifelong lesson and would undoubtedl­y enhance the students’ learning,” he said.
