Jamit checks on access road to new Chinese cemetery

-

KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat recently visited the access road to the new Tai San Ten Association and Chiang Chuan Association cemetery, which the Chinese community leaders here had requested to be upgraded and cemented.

The community leaders had earlier forwarded a request to Jamit for funds to do the improvement works.

The assemblyman was briefed on the project by Kapit Chinese Community Leaders Association chairman Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo.

Present were councillor Liew Hui Hua, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Wong Kie Ing, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh, Kapitan Yap Hui Le, Kapitan Kong Cheak He, Sarawak Dayak Iban Association ( Sadia) Kapit branch chairman Edward Manggah and Jamit’s assistant Cochnam.

The eight-foot wide access road, which is presently unsealed, is about 600 ft from the junction of the existing cement road that ends at the Kapit District Council Common Cemetery.

The present Tai San Ten cemetery, also known as the common Chinese burial ground, at KM3 of Jalan Selirik is fully occupied.

The piece of land of about four acres for the new cemetery was donated by Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Leonard Linggi Jugah.

Jamit later approved RM100,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for the project.

“Since this request will benefit two cemeteries ( Kapit District Council cemetery, Tai San Ten Association and Chiang Chuan Association cemetery), I approved RM100,000 under the RTP 2017 budget. I was also told that the Chinese community leaders led by Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo will organise a ‘gotong-royong’ project to clear the overgrowth on both sides of the road from the junction of Jalan Selirik right up to the new cemetery so that it’s easier to move around,” Jamit said.

Earlier, Jamit visited the site of the construction of a metal bridge across Sungai Selepong at Gentulong Selepong 3, KM4 Jalan Selirik to check on its progress.

While at Gentulong Selepong 3, Jamit was met by Penghulu Uga Esop who briefed him on the village of 67 families.
