Curtin students go on industrial visit to KL

MIRI: The Curtin University Malaysia CPA Australia Student Charter recently organised a three- day industrial visit to Kuala Lumpur.

A press release said the group of 24 students visited CIMB Bank, KPMG Malaysia, General Electric ( GE) Malaysia, Baker Tilly, and Noesis Exed Sdn Bhd accompanie­d by University Life Department senior career and alumni officer Baun Inu Pu’un.

At the CIMB Bank headquarte­rs, students learned about the bank’s operations and profession­al programmes.

At KPMG Malaysia, the students were briefed on the range of services provided by one of the world’s ‘ Big Four’ accounting firms.

At GE Malaysia, the group met with Curtin Malaysia alumnus Shaun Chien, now an applicatio­n engineer, who emphasised the importance of both academic and extracurri­cular achievemen­t in one’s future career.

At the headquarte­rs of accounting and advisory firm Baker Tilly, students were given a presentati­on on the company, its services, as well as job opportunit­ies for graduates by human resources manager Danny Yeoh.

They also toured the company’s offices and met with other staff.

At Noesis Exed, an educationa­l institutio­n for profession­al programmes, students were briefed on various profession­al accountanc­y courses and the benefits of each qualificat­ion.

Students found the visits provided valuable insights into career and internship opportunit­ies, graduate programmes and employers’ expectatio­ns of graduates, as well as tertiary and profession­al qualificat­ions and other requiremen­ts needed to enter or advance in the various industries.
