12 students make it to divisional-level Nilam Contest
SARIKEI: Twelve students who won the top three places in four categories of the district-level Nilam Contest held at the Public Library here on Sept 5 and 6 will represent Sarikei District in the divisional-level contest to be held soon.
They are Bryanna Enya Bana Nicholl, Aiman Abdul Samat of SMK St Anthony and Amy Tang of SMK Tinggi who won first, second and third place respectively in the English category for secondary schools.
Accompanying them are Nur Aisyah Firdaus Deng of SMK St Anthony, Juliana Bin ( SMK Sungai Paoh) and Nurul Syafiqah Jamil (St Anthony) who won first, second and third places in the Bahasa Melayu category also for secondary schools.
Under the Primary School category were Nur Emelia Diyan Azman ( SK Agama), Clairra Freddy ( SK Methodist) and Law Ai Wei (SJK St Martin) who won first to third places in the English category; while Nurfarah Najihah Mohammed Addi Waqash ( SK Agama), Siti Balqis Najwa ( SK Methodist) and Sharmeen Amni Syahzani Zalani ( SK Abang Haji Matahir) won first to third places in the Bahasa Malaysia category.
Only 33 participants registered for the two- day competition.
An officer from District Education Office, Faustino Frederick Emperan who represented the District Education officer in closing the competition, hoped more schools would enter the contest in future.
The contest aimed to encourage the reading culture to ensure excellence in academics, said Faustino who presented the prizes to the winners.
Among those present was organising committee chairman Fahmi Nazirin.
