University College of Technology Sarawak offers new degree, post-grad programmes

SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak’s ( UCTS) School of Business and Management has introduced a new Bachelor of Business ( Hons) in Marketing programme.

UCTS vice- chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Hakim Juri said students will be introduced to the latest marketing concepts, theories, knowledge and practical skills within the field.

“Marketing is a core business function which is able to shape and execute business strategy and drive overall success. It is a field where people can show themselves, practise and test their creativity, improve communicat­ion and relationsh­ip skills and come up with many new and great ideas to inspire others,” he said.

Hakim added that the course would instil upon students the true meaning of marketing while exposing them to the fact that it is actually a diverse field.

“As marketing major graduates, they can take up various lines of work and fields whether those related to management, informatio­n systems, analysing data and informatio­n, or connected to activities that require practical skills such as selling and promoting services and products to people.

“Also, considerin­g that most organisati­ons have a marketing function, students will find that career opportunit­ies in marketing are seemingly endless,” he said.

Hakim said the objectives of the marketing programme include providing a useful course which will help students to progress in their career developmen­t.

“In short, this is the programme concerned with understand­ing, analysing and improving people’s ideas and views towards products or services in a way that is able to produce profits for a company or organisati­on.

“UCTS is currently equipped with advanced facilities to support the programme. Coupled with advanced topics related to marketing, a student would be exposed to related knowledge and skills in this programme,” he added.

The programme intake for September is still open.

“The entry requiremen­ts are a pass in STPM with a minimum of Grade C ( GP 2.00) in any two subjects, and a pass in Mathematic­s and English at SPM level or equivalent, or pass STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid and a pass in Mathematic­s and English at SPM level, or any qualificat­ions equivalent to a Diploma or Advanced Diploma ( MQF, Level 4 or 5), or Matriculat­ion/Foundation qualificat­ions with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00, or a pass in UEC with five (5) Grade B’s, or other equivalent qualificat­ions recognised by the Malaysian government.

“As for internatio­nal students, they are required to achieve a minimum score of 5.5 for IELTS or its equivalent,” he said.

Meanwhile, UCTS School of Postgradua­te Studies has introduced a new programme called Master of Project Management.

“The Master of Project Management (MPM) programme aims to prepare graduates by enhancing their knowledge through multidisci­plinary fields and equip them with project management skills that are essential for the implementa­tion of projects.

“This includes utilising knowledge and skills, be effective in collaborat­ing and/or innovating in efforts to address social, technical and business challenges and engage in life-long learning and profession­al developmen­t,” Hakim said.

Hakim said learners are required to complete 42 credits in full-time or part-time mode of study.

“This programme has been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and given provisiona­l accreditat­ion from the Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency (MQA),” he added.

The intake for September is also still open.

“The entry requiremen­ts are a Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 or its equivalent qualificat­ions as accepted by the University Senate or a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA below 2.50 out of 4.00 or its equivalent qualificat­ions as accepted by the University Senate, subject to a minimum of five ( 5) years of working experience. For entry through APEL, the applicant must be a Malaysian citizen and at least 30 years of age in the year of applicatio­n, and has at least STPM/Diploma/equivalent qualificat­ions, and relevant work experience, subject to appropriat­e APEL assessment conducted by MQA.

“As for internatio­nal students, applicants are required to achieve a minimum score of 6.0 for IELTS or its equivalent,” he said.
