KUCHING: Residents of Taman Dahlia flats at Jalan Matang here must strive to find common ground and stay united in solving any issue that affects them.

In this regard, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman notes that the residents have yet to form their own development and security committee (JKKK).

“Do not come up with reasons for not making the first move. Set up a team among yourselves and work together in addressing the issues involving your area. Be connected with the Housing Development Corporation ( HDC),” he advised residents during a meeting between them and HDC officials, including its chief executive officer Mohd Asman Ahmad, at

the corporation’s headquarters here yesterday.

Fazzrudin stressed that the issues affecting the residents of Taman Dahlia flats such as indiscriminate parking, problems regarding rubbish dumping and collection, as well as crime could be settled if all of them stayed united in addressing these problems.

“There is no point to blame HDC for such problems; we need to first understand the system. HDC has its own procedures to follow, and this is (the area) where we need to understand. It is my wish that after this meeting, the residents and HDC would become closer and any rising issue can be tackled,” he said.

According to Fazzrudin, HDC is ready to offer any good tenant of Taman Dahlia flats a landed, low- cost house with a subsidised price of RM50,000.

“However, HDC has its own terms – out of about 400 low- cost houses under HDC projects, about 80 are slated for residents who are renting HDC flat units such as those in Taman Dahlia. The priority is given to tenants with good payment records, good maintenance of the flat units and sound financial capability,” he said.

Fazzrudin also reiterated to the residents attending the meeting yesterday – about 60 of them –to form a taskforce among themselves, such as the JKKK.
