Bintulu Speakers Club installs new office bearers
BINTULU: The Toastmasters Club is a good platform to train people not only in aspects of public speaking, but leadership and networking and also how to connect with other people.
Political secretary to the Chief Minister Soo Li Ching said she was glad that Bintulu now has a second English Toastmasters Club as a platform for the public to learn and practise English.
Bintulu Speakers Club was officially chartered as a member club of Toastmasters International ( TI) on June 28 this year and is a public community club open to anyone aged 18 years and above.
“Congratulations to Bintulu Speakers Club under the leadership of president Lisa Chee,” she said when officiating at the club’s Installation Night for new office bearers for the term 2017/2018 at Golden Bay Hotel, Tanjung Batu on Sunday.
She said she appreciated and admired the positive aura and thinking of the club’s leaders and team, having experienced the challenges that come from being the president of a new club before.
The event was graced by the Immediate Past District 87 director Ivy Lau. District 87 comprises more than 170 corporate and community clubs, with over 7,000 members across Brunei, East Malaysia and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Chee said Bintulu Speakers Club is a member club of TI which was established in 1924.
“The goal of Bintulu Speakers Club is to give more people in Bintulu the opportunity to benefit from the time-tested Toastmasters programme,” she said.
The club meets every first and third Tuesdays of each month at 8pm at Golden Bay Hotel. The formation of the club was spearheaded by Chee, who heads the Human Resources Department of a multinational company here in Samalaju, and Wendy Ling Yiu Yain, the current Area E3 director.
TI is a world leader in communication and leadership development with more than 345,000 members and 15,900 clubs in 142 countries worldwide.
