Fourth suspect in gang robbery case held

KUCHING: Police have arrested the fourth suspect in connection with a gang robbery of a 24-hour convenienc­e store at Stutong on Sept 5 to facilitate their investigat­ion.

Acting on a tip- off, a team of CID police from Kuching district headquarte­rs led by ASP Austin picked up the 23-year- old suspect at a house in Kpg Stampin Iban, Jalan Stutong around 10.15am on Monday.

District police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said initial investigat­ion revealed that the fourth suspect was together with three other suspects arrested for alleged involvemen­t in a gang robbery at a convenienc­e store on Sept 5 around 5am.

“His role was to be the driver during the event, the suspect has been detained for further investigat­ion,” said Abang Ahmad when contacted yesterday.

According to a previous report, the suspects forced a foreign worker to hand over cash and cigarettes amounting to RM1,500 before fleeing the scene on a white sedan.
