Collision between pick-up and trailer lorry kills three
BINTULU: Three people – two of whom Chinese nationals – were killed in a collision between a pick-up truck and a trailer lorry at Bintulu-Tatau road about 30km from here yesterday.
Bintulu police chief ACP Zailanni Amit said the accident occurred near the Sungai Sebemban bridge.
“The incident happened when the trailer lorry travelling from the direction of Tatau to Bintulu reached the Sebemban bridge, where it crashed into another lorry moving slowly in front of it, and then skidded off to the right lane, overturned and was hit by a pick-up truck coming from the opposite direction,” he said.

Hua, 57, and Chinese nationals Hao Ping, 44, and Zhao Shuguang, 51.
The seriously injured front passenger was identified as Tang Dingping, 43.
He said the 44-year- old lorry driver and his assistant sustained minor injuries.
“Initial investigation found the incident was caused by the negligence of the lorry driver.
“He was arrested and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transports Act 1987,” said Zailanni.
Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department station chief Dihata Gobel said they received a distress call at 7.45am.
He said firefighters arrived at the scene, located about 1km after the Semarakan Road junction at 8.13am.
Upon their arrival, he said firefighters found three of the four victims trapped in the pick-up truck were already dead.
