Car theft suspect nabbed after three months on the run

-

KUCHING: A man wanted in connection with a car theft case has been arrested by police after being on the run for the past three months.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the suspect was detained at a house in Kampung Tapah, off KuchingSerian Road by CID personnel around 10am yesterday.

The 26-year- old suspect was alleged to have stolen a car belonging to a civil servant at Kampung Skuduk, Tapah on Aug 23.

Police also seized machetes, tools believed to be used for vehicle theft, as well as a stolen motorcycle from the suspect’s house.

Aidil added the suspect possessed a string of prior criminal records and had admitted to stealing the car together with a still- at-large friend.

In the Aug 23 incident, the civil servant was on his way home around 3.50am when he crossed paths with the suspect and a few other men at the Kampung Skuduk junction.

“The victim, who is in his 20s, stopped to enquire if anything had happened when the suspect brandished a knife at him and ordered him to exit the vehicle.

“The suspect then got into the vehicle and sped off from the scene,” said Aidil, adding the suspect had also tested positive for Syabu.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and Section 397 of the Penal Code.
