KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan ( PH) Sarawak has been formalised with the appointment of state DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen as chairman.

Chong told a press conference after chairing the coalition’s meeting yesterday that he would be assisted by three deputies namely state PKR chairman Baru Bian, state Amanah chairman Mohd Fidzuan Zaidi and state DAP deputy chairman Chiew Chin Sing.

PH Sarawak’s secretary is Alan Ling ( DAP), while the treasurer is Sophian Julaihi (Amanah). Its information chief is Vernon Kedit from PKR.

PH Sarawak youth wing representatives are Mordi Bimol ( DAP), Simon Siah ( PKR) and Mohamad Fadillah Sabali (Amanah) while representatives for the women wing are Alice Lau ( DAP), Nurzaiti Hamdan (Amanah) and Nurhanim Hanna Mokhsen ( PKR).

Chong said the state manifesto committee would be headed by Wong King Wei ( DAP), Nicholas Bawin ( PKR) and Abang Halil Abang Naili (Amanah).

“Members of the state election committee are Julian Tan ( DAP), See Chee How ( PKR), Andri Zulkarnaen Hamden (Amanah), David Wong ( DAP), George Chen ( PKR), Gusti Ardanishah Gusti Asmadi ( Amanah), Dr Ting

Chong said PH’s vision is that they would move as one entity to take on BN in the 14th General Election.

“We ( PH) will be fielding candidates in all parliamentary seats in the GE14. It will be PH versus BN. As far as we ( DAP, PKR and Amanah) are concerned, we have settled the seats negotiation and we will take on BN headon.”

Chong said PH Sarawak would maintain the status quo in terms of seats allocation, which they

agreed during the 13th general election.

There would not be any overlapping of seats.

He also said there would be many new faces to be fielded for the coalition in the 14GE. He, however, declined to give the number of seats that PH is confident of winning in Sarawak.

As for the manifesto, Chong said the manifesto committee would be finalising their ‘Sarawak Manifesto’, and would be disclosed to the public in due course.

“Among those already in the manifesto are the setting up of English schools and 100 per cent treated water supply for suburban and rural areas.”

On another subject, Chong said what happened in Peninsular Malaysia would act as a stimulus for the change in Sarawak.

“Basically, the Malay grounds in Peninsular Malaysia for BN, in particular Umno, has shaken.

“There are four reasons for that, firstly,- the impact of goods and services tax ( GST) after three years of implementation, and the devaluation of ringgit which has resulted in the rising cost of living.

“Secondly, the 1MDB issue which has shaken the people’s confidence particularly civil servants in places such as law enforcement agencies, and Bank Negara Malaysia.

All these regulatory bodies seem to be thrown out of the window in the case of 1MDB.

Thirdly, the Felda issue, which has hit many hardcore Felda settlers who are also the hardcore supporters of Umno.

“Fourth, the Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad factor, which has a big impact on Umno members.

“With these four issues, the Malay support for BN in Peninsular Malaysia is shaken. Therefore, it is important that we in Sarawak play our part in the change of government for the first time in the history of Malaysia,” Chong said.
