MRC Limbang lauded for being proactive, community work
LIMBANG: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Limbang Chapter is praised for being proactive and relentlessly assisting the community in times of trouble and disaster.
Assistant Minister for Agriculture Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the non-governmental organisation ( NGO) is also the first organisation that will render assistance to victims of disasters.
“The government fully supports and appreciates the efforts made by MRC in carrying out their activities and humanitarian programmes,” he said when officiating at the recent 55th MRC Limbang Chapter anniversary dinner.
Also present were MRC Sarawak chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, Limbang Deputy Resident Selamat Jati Yanjah, MRC Limbang chairman Chew Sing Liang, and the anniversary celebration organising chairman Awang Omar Pengeran Tajudin.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, said the government also supported efforts to provide infrastructure by expediting the construction of shophouses for MRC Limbang.
He said the shophouses once completed would provide a more comfortable office environment for the organisation and could be rented out to generate income to fi nance the NGO’s various activities.
He also urged MRC Limbang to diversify their humanitarian activities.
Earlier, Chan said MRC Limbang was among the active MRC chapters in Sarawak, carrying out various humanitarian and voluntary activities.
He said besides implementing their traditional humanitarian programmes such as blood donation campaigns, their new focus includes greening the environment by planting trees to cushion the effects of global warming.
The function also saw the presentation of tokens of appreciation to 15 blood donation campaign sponsors, past chairpersons of MRC Limbang and blood donors (2012 – 2016)
A special award was also given to MRC Limbang committee member Rary Binjie who went to Acheh, Indonesia during the 2004 tsunami.
