SIBU: Members of the public are encouraged to channel crimerelated information or complaints over police misconduct through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol ( VSP) application launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak in March.

State Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) head SAC Shafie Ismail said registration for the VSP application in Sarawak is still low, and that his department is beefing up efforts to get more people to sign-up.

“VSP is similar to the Rakan Cop programme. The difference is that VSP application is only available for smartphone users. The application enables the public to report misconduct of police and crime activities through pictures, videos, and audio,” he told reporters here yesterday after chairing the Sarawak Crime Prevention and Community Safety meeting.

According to Shafie, the application aims to boost crime monitoring activities among the community through the sharing of information using smartphones.

“I hope that everyone can give their cooperation and register for the application to help the police curb crime,” he added, pointing out that the safety of the nation requires the participation of both the community and the police.
