School marks National Day, Malaysia Day with performances, presentation

-

SARIKEI: SMK St Anthony celebrated National Day and Malaysia Day with a video presentation and stage performances by students at its school hall on Tuesday.

Its principal Vincent Liong said the event aimed to inculcate the spirit of patriotism and love towards the nation, and also to appreciate the efforts of past leaders in fighting for independence.

“It is vital that students celebrate National Day and Malaysia Day as a way to remind them how their country had come into being,” he said.

Liong added this was in line with the school’s commitment to produce knowledgeable students with high discipline for the development of future human capital and quality leaders.

District Education Officer Raden Fozi Radin Abdul Rahim, who was the guest- of- honour of the event, commended SMK St Anthony for involving all students in the celebration.

He said although the school was generally acknowledged as one of best in terms of academic performance in the division as well as in the state, he was glad to note that other aspects of education, including moral and spiritual, were equally emphasised.

To commemorate the event, a short video on the country’s independence was shown to the audience of students, teachers and parents.

Adding merriment to the celebration were stage performances and sketches by students.

The school’s parents- teacher association chairperson Maureen Chua Geck Liang and alumni association chairman Eric Ling Hung Leong were among those present.
