See concerned about part of Jalan Stephen Yong bypass not tar-sealed

-

KUCHING: Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How is calling on the Public Works Department (JKR) to immediately tar-seal a 100-metre stretch of Jalan Stephen Yong bypass which has been left out from the reconstruction and widening works on the road.

“Motorists are delighted with the reconstruction and widening of this important carriageway, but there is a stretch of that road which is about 100 metres near the traffic junction just outside SRK Arang that remains not tar-sealed. It seems that it has been for almost a month now that it is just that 100 metres of road that is not tar-sealed despite the other parts are all tarsealed.

“As that stretch was not tar-sealed and there was no maintenance of its surface, it is now in terrible condition.

“Not only is it causing traffic congestion during busy hours, the road condition has made it harmful and barely passable for smaller cars,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

See noted that there was no traffic light at that part of the road and the contractor had tried to use blocks as markers to make it into two lanes.

“However, some of the road blocks are always out of position and that stretch of the road will be reduced to just one lane.

“That is why it is causing massive traffic jam every morning and evening, when everybody is rushing to and from work and school.”

See also called on JKR to examine and supervise the work done by the contractor, saying even though the road had just been tar- sealed, many potholes were already appearing on the road which posed danger to motorists, especially motorcyclists.

“I know they are trying to do something this ( yesterday) morning... I’m sure they will tarseal the potholes.

“But it is only a part of the road that they are doing, actually there are a lot of parts along the stretch that are already damaged by vehicles.”
