Intercultural Mooncake Festival is back
KUCHING: Kuching Intercultural Mooncake Festival is back for the 16th year with a line-up of exciting activities to be held from Ewe Hai Street to China Street from Sept 28 to Oct 4.
The weeklong event is hosted by the Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations and the Old Market Community Association.
Organising chairperson Sim Kiang Chiok said this festival, built on the theme of sight, sound and taste over the years, continues to focus on strengthening community bonds and fostering unity among people of various races in Sarawak.
“We continue to promote unity in diversity through the festival with food, music, performances and activities that feature unique cultures and traditions,” he told a press conference at Kuching Resident’s Office here yesterday.
“Last year, we recorded some 80,000 visitors throughout the seven days. We hope to attract more people because this is the people’s festival,” he said in the hope the festival will see greater community participation.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony on Sept 30.
Among organisations and attractions at the festival this year are Association of Sarawak Inbound Agencies (Asia) to promote tourist attractions, The RM10 Club, Kuching Traditional and Holistic Natural Medicine Association to offer free health checks and consultations, Social Security Organisation ( Socso), street magic by See Hua Club and Fusan Troupes as well as Associations of Arts and Culture from China.

Artistic, cultural, traditional and modern performers and entertainers are also invited to participate in the festival. They can call Sim Han Tong at 019- 8882000.
Kuching Deputy Resident Tuah Suni, festival chairman Dato Sim Swee Yong, organising chairperson Councillor Amy Tnay, Penghulu Tan Heng Kee and festival advisor Sirat Ibrahim were among those present.
