Customs officers hold dialogue with local businessme­n

KUCHING: An annual dialogue between the Customs Department and private sector was held at Wisma Kastam here on Tuesday.

The dialogue was chaired by its deputy director general (customs and GST) Datuk Paddy Abdul Halim and vice-president of Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KCGCCI) Dr Christophe­r Ngui as the co- chairman.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)related issues and opinions were mentioned by the representa­tives during the dialogue and discussed effectivel­y.

The KCGCCI thanked Customs Department for the invitation and look forward to having more of this kind of productive session from time to time, as agreed by Paddy at the dialogue.

It viewed the dialogue as a great platform for the private sector and companies to resolve related issues with the department concerning the industry and also to enable them to keep up-to- date with related policies.

Also present were state Customs director Datin Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha, chairman for KCGCCI public relations committee Fam Khing Foh and representa­tives from Sarawak Shipping Associatio­n, Sarawak Forwarding Agencies Associatio­n, Sarawak Electronic Companies Associatio­n, Associatio­n of Malay Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia ( Pekema) Sarawak Branch, Malaysian Manufactur­ers Federation, Sarawak Timber Associatio­n, Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak and Tiong Nam(Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.
