MCC sets up committee to solve air pollution in Krokop

MIRI: A committee will be set up to address the dusty road that contribute­d to the air pollution along Krokop’s main road here.

Miri mayor Adam Yii said the committee will be headed by Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (CMS).

“As a result of site inspection of Krokop Jetty area today followed by discussion, a decision has been made to form a committee headed by CMS.

“Besides Miri City Council ( MCC), the other agencies which will sit in the committee are the local industrial player in Miri, Shin Yang, Natural Resources Environmen­t Board ( NREB) and Department of Environmen­t ( DOE) here,” he told the media after a site visit to the dusty area yesterday.

Yii assured the people living and working in the affected area of his commitment to solve the long-standing problem.

He said the council together with NREB and DOE had actually started working on this issue for quite some time already.

Krokop being one of the major industrial areas in Miri, he thanked CMS and Shin Yang for their commitment and cooperatio­n to solve the dusty condition along that

“That’s why this committee will be set up to determine whether the cement plant is contributi­ng to the dust problem. If not, of course we will tackle the normal sandy, dusty issue.”

He said it was important that all relevant parties come together to solve the problem.

Also present were CMS group chief corporate officer Dato Isaac Lugun, CMS group chief operating officer Goh Chii Bing, Shin Yang Shipping Corporatio­n Berhad executive director Ling Chiong Sieng and city councillor­s.
