84,000 expected at Intercultu­ral Mooncake Festival

KUCHING: The 16th Kuching Intercultu­ral Mooncake Festival from Sept 28 to Oct 4 is expected to draw 12,000 visitors every night.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the festival, organised by the Federation of Kuching Division Community Associatio­ns and Old Market Community Associatio­n, brings all races together to celebrate through culture, music and street food.

Lee suggested the organisers promptly present details for next year’s event to the ministry, so that it can be included in Sarawak’s tourism calendar.

Special guests from Fushan, China – Guangzhou Music and Art Associatio­n, Foshan Nanhai Microfilm Associatio­n, Foshan Ancient Poetry Associatio­n, Foshan Beauty Industry Associatio­n, Foshan Nanhai Cheongsam Culture Associatio­n, Shenzhen New Media Microfilm Associatio­n, Guangning Pop Music Associatio­n, and Nanhai Girls Choir – will be at this year’s festival.

The Chinese film associatio­ns will broadcast the event to China and globally to an audience of 50 million.
