FAME conducts pre-SPM workshop

KUCHING: Over 500 fifth formers from 10 secondary schools in and around Kuching have benefitted from the pre- SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) workshop held at Sarawak Islamic Centre here yesterday.

It was organised by FAME Internatio­nal College.

In its eighth year, this year’s workshop was conducted by Commerce teacher Hanim Haseni from SMK St Teresa who has received recognitio­n as an Excellent Teacher.

The main objective of this workshop is to help students prepare for the coming public examinatio­n by equipping them with knowledge and techniques to tackle the Commerce exam papers.

The participat­ing schools were SMK Batu Lintang, SMK Green Road, SMK Pending, SMK Jalan Arang, SMK Kuching High, SMK Padungan, SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, SMK Batu Kawa, SMK St Joseph and SMK St Thomas.

FAME marketing director Rachel Choo said the programme was part of the college’s long term commitment to promote business studies and its prospects among the local community.

“I am overwhelme­d by the turnout today ( yesterday). Our aim is simple and that’s to help you not only pass the exams, particular­ly in Commerce subject, but with flying colours,” she said in her address at the opening of the workshop yesterday.

FAME is an acronym for Fina nci a l , Acc ount ancy, Management and Entreprene­urship - the four discipline­s that represent the core of the college.

“We offer courses at certificat­e level, foundation, diplomas and degrees. FAME students can also complete their degrees at internatio­nally recognised universiti­es like University of Cumbria ( UoC), UK or locally at lower fees,” she said.

All FAME courses, she added, were approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and accredited by Malaysian Quali f ication Agency.

“Various financial assistance are available such as PTPTN, easy payment scheme from banks, and scholarshi­ps.”

Choo revealed that FAME Kuching has produced more than 4,000 graduates in various fields to- date.

“We wish you (students) all the best in your examinatio­ns and you will pass your SPM.”

FAME offers Certificat­e in Business Studies, Foundation in Management , Cer t i f ied Accounting Technician ( CAT) programme and Associatio­n of Chartered Certified Accountant­s (ACCA) programme.

The college also offers diplomas in Accounting and Finance, Business Administra­tion and Entreprene­urship.

It also conducts two 3+ 0 degree programmes in collaborat­ion with UoC like Bachelor of Science ( Hons) in Business Management, Accounting and Finance, and Bachelor of Arts ( Hons) in Internatio­nal Business Management.

All diploma holders at FAME can get direct entry into Year 2, allowing them to attain the bachelor degrees locally.
