25 less privileged rural students recipients of Merdeka Cheer
MIRI: Twenty five less privileged rural students from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang benefitted from a recent Merdeka Cheer (Happiness) joint project organised by four clubs in Miri.
The clubs were Leo clubs of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang and Riam Road Secondary School, Lions Club of Miri Host, and Lions Club of Miri Mandarin.
Organising chairperson Leo Sonia Robin from Leo club of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang said Merdeka Cheer costing them RM2,850 was an annual charity project to spread cheer to underprivileged hostel students of the college besides inculcating a spirit of love and care among the school community.
She said the four clubs sponsored lunch, bowling games and stationery for the 25 recipients while Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng gave ‘angpows’ to the recipients.
“I’m very happy that the Lions and Leos are able to have a great lunch and bowling fellowship with these needy students,” she said in a statement yesterday.
Present were Dr Teo and wife Diana Yeoh who is also the advisor for Leo Club of Riam Road Secondary School and presidents of the four clubs: Peter HK Yng (Lions Club of Miri Host), Wong Qin Yi (Leo club Riam Road Secondary School), Zuniga Joanne Majakin (Leo Club of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang) and Kueh Chie Tiong who is president of the Lions Club of Miri Mandarin.
