25 less priv­i­leged ru­ral stu­dents re­cip­i­ents of Merdeka Cheer

MIRI: Twenty five less priv­i­leged ru­ral stu­dents from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bu­jang ben­e­fit­ted from a re­cent Merdeka Cheer (Hap­pi­ness) joint pro­ject or­gan­ised by four clubs in Miri.

The clubs were Leo clubs of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bu­jang and Riam Road Se­condary School, Lions Club of Miri Host, and Lions Club of Miri Man­darin.

Or­gan­is­ing chair­per­son Leo So­nia Robin from Leo club of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bu­jang said Merdeka Cheer cost­ing them RM2,850 was an an­nual char­ity pro­ject to spread cheer to un­der­priv­i­leged hos­tel stu­dents of the col­lege be­sides in­cul­cat­ing a spirit of love and care among the school com­mu­nity.

She said the four clubs spon­sored lunch, bowl­ing games and sta­tionery for the 25 re­cip­i­ents while Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng gave ‘angpows’ to the re­cip­i­ents.

“I’m very happy that the Lions and Leos are able to have a great lunch and bowl­ing fel­low­ship with th­ese needy stu­dents,” she said in a state­ment yes­ter­day.

Present were Dr Teo and wife Diana Yeoh who is also the ad­vi­sor for Leo Club of Riam Road Se­condary School and pres­i­dents of the four clubs: Peter HK Yng (Lions Club of Miri Host), Wong Qin Yi (Leo club Riam Road Se­condary School), Zu­niga Joanne Ma­jakin (Leo Club of Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bu­jang) and Kueh Chie Tiong who is pres­i­dent of the Lions Club of Miri Man­darin.
