Tudan road users now enjoy a smoother ride
MIRI: Residents of Tudan, Senadin, Permyjaya and Kuala Baram as well as frequent users of Tudan road are now relieved that a traffic light has been installed at the road and commissioned.
In his speech when declaring open the Tudan road traffic light yesterday, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the upgrading of the 3.5km Tudan road from single to dual carriageway would greatly ease the traffic congestion that had been experienced by the public all these years.
“Now that the road is finally completed, though there are still some touching- up that need to be done, it is viewed as a huge development progress for the northern part of Miri,” Lee told reporters.
The RM42.8-million project, which commenced early last year, not only involved upgrading the road to dual carriageway, it was intended to ease traffic congestions at Tudan Polyclinic and SK Tudan.

roads in the northern part of Miri as it caters to the need of residents here and those who have to travel to Permyjaya, Senadin, Tudan and Kuala Baram for work. Travellers to Brunei also often use Tudan road as a shortcut.
“It clearly shows that Tudan road plays a huge part in the people’s lives here, thus, I am sure that everyone shares the same happy feeling as I have right now,” said Lee.
Before the road is handed over to Miri City Council ( MCC) for future maintenance, Lee said Sesco would have to install the transformer for lighting up the street lights.
It is said that the road will be officially handed over to MCC within a month.
“After that, MCC will be drawing yellow lines at sections in front of Tudan Polyclinic and SK Tudan to control traffic speed, for the sake of the students’ and patients’ safety.”
Lee also revealed that aside from the road-upgrading project, an additional 80 new parking lots had been added in front of the Tudan Polyclinic.
The RM200,000 project includes covering the storm drain and clearing the empty land in front of the clinic.
The ceremony was attended by mayor Adam Yii, Tudan village head Nasir Rahim, Kapitan Chong Ah Muk, Kapitan Jee Kee Hiong and representatives from Sesco, Public Works Department ( PWD) and the city council.
Meanwhile, on the suggestions by worried parents that the authority consider building an overhead bridge in front of the school, Lee said he would bring up the matter to the state cabinet.
“The safety of the students is our main priority. Therefore, a lengthier discussion will be needed before any decision is made.”
