Rousing welcome for Nanta, Jamit to longhouse

KAPIT: Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Developmen­t Datuk Alexander Nanta Linngi, who is Kapit MP, and Bukit Goram assemblyma­n Jefferson Jamit Unyat were given a rousing welcome by hundreds of villagers from five longhouses and nearby areas when attending the ‘Majlis Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ at Rumah Seliong, Sungai Belawai here.

The one- day gathering was organised by the Special Affairs Department ( Jasa) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Kapit.

The f ive longhouses were Rumah Seliong, Rumah Gelu, Rumah Madau, Rumah Mamat and Rumah Jabang.

Others attending the gathering were from Rumah Nuga, Rumah Pioh, Rumah Marung, Rumah Nuing, Rumah Layang, Rumah Rengga, Rumah Lugan, Rumah Semada, Rumah Ramtai and Rumah Lugom.

In his speech, Nanta said they came to inspect the projects implemente­d along Sungai Belawai and to meet the people.

“I don’t want to see the projects not done properly and not according to specificat­ions by the contractor because it will not benefit the ‘rakyat’,” he said.

He disclosed that from 2014 till this year, various projects worth more than RM3 million had been implemente­d at various longhouses along Sungai Belawai.

Earlier upon arrival, Nanta inspected the project to improve and upgrade the 1km gravel road which links Rumah Seliong to the logging road.

Amo n g ot h e r pr o j e c t s implemente­d were the metal bridge, metal jetty, cement path, ‘bantuan perumahan rakyat’, ‘ekasih’ and site-levelling for a new longhouse, Nanta added.

“All longhouses along Sungai Belawai in future will be supplied with 24-hour electricit­y through the state grid. The existing logging road from Nangai Belawai to the interior will be upgraded and electricit­y poles will be erected. All these projects are worth millions of ringgit, with the purpose of uplifting the standard of living of the rural communitie­s,” he said further.

He advised the people not to be swayed by the opposition, whom he said “only know how to criticise but do nothing for the rakyat”.

He told the crowd he was very happy that voters from Sungai Belawai were giving full support to the government.

Later, Nanta announced grants of RM6,000 each to the longhouses along Sungai Belawai ( Rumah Nuing, Rumah Marung, Rumah Pioh, Rumah Nuga, Rumah Leyang, Rumah Rengga, Rumah Madau, Rumah Gelu, Rumah Mamat, Rumah Jabang, Rumah Lugan, Rumah Seliong, Rumah Semada, Rumah Rantai and Rumah Lugom).

He said RM3,000 of the amount for each village came from him and the balance was from Jamit.

Among those present were political secretary to the chief minister Tapah Ata, Kapit district officer Elvis Didit, other heads of government department­s, Temenggong Wi l fred Bi l ly Panyau, Pemanca Enggin Nyipa, Penghulu Pasang Tubah and other community leaders.
