Woman’s concern about surgery bills allayed — thanks to SUPP

-

MIRI: A local woman who needs to undergo surgery to remove cataract from her left eye is relieved to know that she would receive help in settling the medical bill.

Te n Ki m Ji n , 54 , wa s recommended by doctors for the operation at Miri Hospital, which was scheduled for Sept 18.

However, she was worried about not being able to clear the bills. She then went to the Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Senadin office last week to seek help.

“When she came to SUPP for help, she told us she couldn’t afford the bill, even though it (surgery) would be performed at Miri Hospital.

“She is from the hardcore poor family – her husband works as a contract labourer with unstable income, while she is unemployed. The only thing that came into my mind was to help her immediately, since the operation could not be delayed anymore,” said Erick Chin, special assistant to Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin, in a statement yesterday.

It is learnt that Ten and her family live in a house at Tudan Phase 2. Both Ten and her husband are recipients of the monthly RM250 Welfare Department aid.

They have three chi ldren – their eldest is already married, the second in Form 3 while the youngest is in the secondary school’s transition class.

“I wish Madam Ten a speedy recovery,” said Chin.
