Over 200 coaches and coordinato­rs attend SSC seminar

KUCHING: About 200 coaches and sports coordinato­rs from all over Sarawak attended a “Meet The Coaches session with Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan” cum coaching seminar organised by the Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n (SSC) at a local hotel last Sunday.

The seminar was also attended by coaches from the various entres of developmen­t, excellence and el ite from al l over the state a lthough Lawan was unable to attend due to other commitment­s.

The SSC coaching panel which includes Dr Balbir Singh, his deputy Dr Chin Ngien Siong and fitness expert from the ISN Kuala Lumpur Andre Richards, were also on hand to give talks and to get feedback from the coaches.

SSC CEO Dr Ong Kong Swee, in addressing the seminar, said SSC will conduct courses locally in Sarawak for the coaches to improve sports developmen­t in preparatio­n for the next year’s Sukma to be held in Perak.

He also reminded them that performanc­es come first when it comes to selection of their athletes and they must be transparen­t and not based on other criteria.

Ong added that the coaches must produce results and based on their performanc­e index ( KPI), those who failed to achieve may have their contract terminated.

“Performanc­es come first and coaches must be transparen­t when it comes to selection of athletes.

“They must face the challenges and learn from their mistakes for if we follow these basic rules we can become a sports powerhouse again,” stressed Ong.
