Jackie Chan is still hoping for role in romance movie

-

HONG KONG: Superstar Jackie Chan is still hoping to take the leap from kicking butts to swaying hearts.

And he’s grumbling that Hollywood has yet to cast him for a romance movie.

Judging by the number of affairs he has had in real life, Jackie figures he’s amply qualified for such a role.

But each time Hollywood bigwigs lay eyes on him, all they could think of are more action flicks.

During a recent talk show with Conan O’Brien, Jackie voiced out his frustration on this omission.

O’Brien had asked him what kind of roles he would love to do.

Grumbled Jackie: “I’m willing to do anything, everything. Of course, slow motion, the beach, hugging with the girl, kissing. It’s good. But nobody hired me. No director.”

O’Brien then asked if he was referring to a romance movie.

Replied an animated Jackie, “Romance, romantic… anything.”

When O’Brien observed that Jackie would fit the role perfectly, he lamented that he’s too old for that genre now. Jackie is 63.

Jackie also hinted that Asians in general have not been given due recognition for their acting skills.

Said Jackie: “I want to be a true actor just like Robert

I’m willing to do anything, everything. Of course, slow motion, the beach, hugging with the girl, kissing. It’s good. But nobody hired me. No director.

Deniro, Dustin Hoffman.”

Although the interview was largely conducted in a jocular fashion, it was clear that Jackie was uncomfortable about being typecast.

Last November, on stage to receive an honorary Oscar, Jackie had said: “After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, after so many broken bones, finally.”

Jackie stars in the action thriller film The Foreigner, which is scheduled for release in China on Sept 30.
